Clinical Study of Transabdominal Cervico-Istmic Cerclage Operation in Patients with Incompetent Internal Os of the Cervix : Preliminary results

|
Five transabdominal cervico-isthmic cerclage(TCIC) procedures and 3 thransvaginal cervical cerclage (TVCC) operation were performed at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanyang University Hospital in 1991. In all patients, the decision
to
perform the proedure was based on failed transvaginal cervical cerclage(TVCC) operations. In 4 patients, TCIC was performed during pregnancy. Postpartum TCIC was done in remained one patient. Of the 4 patients who received TCIC during pregnancy,

patients delivered infant by cesarean section at term. Remained 2 patient are being pregnant at 34 weeks and 20 weeks, respectively. Of three patients who received transvaginal cerclage operation, only 1 infant was survived after preterm labor on
29
weeks.
The TCIC would increase the fetal salvage rate in selected women who have incompetent internal os of the cervix and poor obstetric outcome was related to failed TVCC.
